Sky Sports Fantasy Football: Our scout looks at which players you should consider signing this weekend

Our scout looks at whether the game's new top scorer is worth selecting and offers up four other in-form options.
Paul Dummett - £4.5m
On current form, there is no better value player in the game than Newcastle defender Paul Dummett. The Magpies’ remarkable upturn in form has largely been down to their improvements in defence, conceding just one in six successive wins in all competitions. While it’s probably a step too far to suggest it has all been down to Dummett, it is fair to say the fact that the Magpies have conceded just eight in 10 when he has played compared to seven in two in his absence cannot be ignored. The big question now is whether Alan Pardew’s men can maintain their form and if Dummett can continue to rack up clean sheets and, in turn, points. Fellow high-flyers West Ham are up next but, with their two leading scorers, Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho, doubtful after sitting out last weekend, it certainly seems feasible. Ultimately, with Dummett commanding such a modest valuation, signing him up appears to be a no-brainer.
Sergio Aguero – 9.8m
While Dummett offers the value, there’s no doubt top-scorer Sergio Aguero is the most in-form striker in the Premier League at the moment. However, Manchester City’s next two fixtures are a concern for those pondering their captaincy. First up is a visit to Southampton, who have the best defensive record at home in the division, so City will have to be at their best to get the win they need to leapfrog the Saints into second spot. After that, Manuel Pellegrini’s men travel to the Stadium of Light, which is typically a bogey ground for City, having suffered four consecutive 1-0 defeats away to Sunderland, with no wins on this ground in their last five visits. All this suggests either Diego Costa (£9.5m) or Alexis Sanchez (£9.5m) should get the captain’s armband instead, particularly as many of your rivals will naturally opt for Aguero (£9.8m), without taking the stats into account. At a push, Costa is the better option than Sanchez, with Sky Bet expecting Chelsea to cruise to victories over Sunderland (4/11) on Saturday and Tottenham (4/11) on Wednesday, with Spurs having failed to beat Chelsea in their last nine attempts.
Nathaniel Clyne - £6.1m
Much like Dummett, the ultimate question is whether Clyne’s club Southampton can maintain their run. Whether they do or not, Clyne’s form deserves a mention, racking up 71 points already, just 24 less than he managed in the whole of last season. Two goals, an assist and seven clean sheets account for that impressive tally, with just six goals conceded. He will now be tasked with helping to stop one of the deadliest marksman in football when Sergio Aguero visits St Mary’s on Sunday, while Arsenal and Manchester United follow in the Saints’ daunting run of fixtures. There are also questions as to whether the right-back’s attacking contributions will continue, given he’d only previously scored once in 59 Premier League appearances prior to the current campaign. For those who haven’t already brought him on board, it would be a questionable move to acquire his services at this stage.
Wilfried Bony - £8.2m
With all 20 sides playing twice, there are not too many ways to take advantage of the double gameweek except for looking at which ones have favourable fixtures. Swansea are one of the teams with back-to-back home matches and, indeed, ones which they are expected to win, with Crystal Palace and QPR visiting. Their Christmas run is also relatively favourable, making Bony a tempting proposition. The Ivory Coast forward’s strike at Manchester City, a fifth in his last six appearances, means he is the highest scoring Premier League player in the calendar year with 17 goals. Gylfi Sigurdsson is actually the Swans’ top points scorer thanks to two goals and seven assists, while their backline is has the second most clean sheets in the league with five.
Lukasz Fabianski - £3.8m
The aforementioned defensive form, upcoming fixtures and valuation all combine to make Fabianski the top pick of the goalkeepers in Sky Sports Fantasy Football right now. Fraser Forster currently leads the points table with 53 but the Saints’ daunting run could leave the door open for Poland’s third-choice stopper to become the Premier League’s no. 1. At 3.8m compared to Forster’s £4.9m, Fabianski is only just beaten in the value-for-money stakes, with 10.5 points for every £1m to the Englishman’s 10.8. Compare that to the league’s most expensive goalkeepers and it becomes clear that it’s an area to make savings on, with Thibaut Courtois (£6m and 34 points) scoring 5.6, Joe Hart (£5.9m and 31 points) 5.2 and David de Gea (£5.8m and 41 points) 7.1.
