Manchester City will canvas the opinion of supporters on whether they want to change the club's badge, which they have used since 1997.

The City crest has been the topic of much discussion among fans for some time and the club are keen to know if they can develop the emblem.

City have had three key badges since the 1930s, excluding the City of Manchester's Coat of Arms.

The consultation process will last until 14th November 2015 and the findings will be communicated later in the season.

City chief executive officer Ferran Soriano said: "The badge is the most visual representation of Manchester City and is so central to our heritage."

"We are looking for our fans to share their views as to what they consider to be the most authentic symbols of the club.

"The views of our Citizens are essential to the process; they will have a real say on the future of our badge.

"Fans will be able to access video, graphics and photography to remind them of the rich history of the City badges. There will also be free lectures from Manchester football historian Gary James.

"Over the years, one of the few constants at Manchester City has been discussion about the badge. Today is no different," he said.

"This club knows how important its heritage is to its fans and I have been impressed with the commitment to keeping them at the centre of this project. I am looking forward to being part of the consultation process."
