West Brom and Southampton have held positive talks about Jay Rodriguez moving to the Hawthorns on loan., according to Sky sources.
West Brom manager Tony Pulis has made it clear that he wants to bring in some new faces before the transfer window closes next week.
Sky sources understand West Brom and Hull City are two of a number of Premier League clubs interested in taking the 27-year-old, but the Saints are conscious of strengthening a rival for league position.
Rodriguez was capped by England in 2013 but suffered a bad knee injury in April 2014, but has since made a recovery and was involved in the first team at the end of last season under Ronald Koeman.
But the forward, who has three years left on the contract he signed in 2015, has played just six minutes so far this season as a second-half substitute in the defeat at Manchester United.
Rodriguez is believed to still be part of new Saints boss Claude Puel's long-term plans, but the club are understood to be prepared to let him leave on loan to get more regular games.
Rodriguez signed from Burnley in 2012 and impressed under Maurico Pochettino before suffering long-term injury and an absence of over a year.
