Southampton plan to keep Jay Rodriguez after interest from other clubs in a potential loan deal, according to Sky sources.
The 27-year-old forward was the subject of interest from West Brom, who held positive talks with Saints last week, Hull and Sunderland.
But, despite the south coast-club being close to signing Lille winger Sofiane Boufal for a club-record £21m fee, Rodriguez is now expected to remain at Southampton beyond Wednesday's transfer deadline.
Southampton had been reluctant to let him go and were concerned about strengthening a rival for league position, but the player was not assured over regular first-team football.
Rodriguez was an unused substitute in Southampton's opener against Watford and played just four minutes as a late sub in the second game against Manchester United.
But he came off the bench to score a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland on Saturday.
Rodriguez has been with Southampton since 2012 when he joined in a £6m deal from Burnley.
