Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck and Manchester United defender Luke Shaw have emerged as injury concerns ahead of Saturday’s Premier League game between the sides.
Both picked up knocks in England’s 3-1 win over Scotland at Celtic Park on Tuesday night and will be assessed ahead of the Sky Live clash at the Emirates.
Welbeck felt some stiffness in his hamstring and was substituted on 66 minutes, with England head coach Roy Hodgson taking him off as a precaution, despite the forward wanting to carry on playing.
His fitness will now be assessed by the Gunners ahead of the United game which, if he plays, will be the first time he has faced his former club since joining Arsenal for £16million on transfer deadline day.
Shaw was substituted at the same time against Scotland with a hamstring pull of his own and he gave an injury update after the game.
“I picked up a few knocks during the game and my left hamstring, which I hurt at the start of the season, I could feel a little bit,” he told Sky Sports.
“We had a discussion at half-time over whether to bring me off then but it was a game I didn’t want to come off in so I played the extra 15 minutes and then Roy decided to sub me off.”
As for whether he would be available for Saturday’s game at Arsenal, Shaw added: “We will just have to see but I am hoping to be fit.”
Arsenal take on Manchester United in this weekend’s Saturday Night Football – coverage begins on Sky Sports 1HD at 4:45pm.
