Rapid progress has been made in the redevelopment of Liverpool’s Anfield stadium - as the latest photographs show.
A newly-assembled roof truss now towers over nearby houses, highlighting the scale of the club’s £114m extension to the Main Road stand.
Liverpool announced the plan to undertake work on the stand in December 2014. An additional 8,500 seats are to be added, with half allocated to the corporate market.
The club have defended the rise in corporate seating, stating that the overall percentage of corporate seats will stay the same across the stadium. Liverpool expect the new stand to generate an extra £20m of revenue per season.
The changes will take the capacity in the Main Road stand to over 20,000, increasing the overall capacity of Anfield to around 54,000. This would make it the fourth biggest stadium in the Premier League behind Old Trafford, the Emirates and the Etihad.
Construction work began at the start of the year and is on course to be completed for the start of the 2016/17 season.
After work on the Main Stand has been completed, Liverpool will move onto expanding the Anfield Road end with a view to taking the stadium capacity to just under 60,000.
The club had previously considered relocating to a new ground in Stanley Park in order to solve their capacity issues, before opting to stay and improve the existing stadium.
