Wayne Rooney and Morgan Schneiderlin have been left out of Manchester United’s 19-man squad for Tuesday’s key Champions League game against Wolfsburg.

United captain Rooney has not made the trip to Germany after missing Saturday's goalless draw with West Ham with an ankle injury.

French midfielder Schneiderlin was forced off with a hip problem just before half-time against the Hammers and has also stayed behind for rehabilitation.

Rooney and Schneiderlin headline a lengthy injury list for United which also includes Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Phil Jones, Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia.

Louis van Gaal's side, who currently sit second in Group B, need a win against first-placed Wolfsburg to be ensured of progressing to the knockout stages.

PSV Eindhoven host a CSKA Moscow side who cannot progress in the other game and a win by the Dutch champions will mean anything other than a United victory puts the Red Devils out.
