Manchester United Women’s game with Charlton abandoned after Charlotte Kerr injury

Manchester United Women’s game at Charlton on Sunday was called off due to a serious injury suffered by Addicks defender Charlotte Kerr.
Kerr suffered rib and sternum injuries during a goalmouth scramble where Casey Stoney's side took an 11th-minute lead through Charlotte Devlin.
The game was stopped for nearly an hour as both teams were ordered back to the changing room by the referee while Kerr was treated on the pitch by medical staff, pending the arrival of an ambulance.
When the ambulance eventually arrived it went straight onto the field, where Kerr's treatment continued before she was taken to a nearby hospital. The referee then called for the abandonment of the match.
A Charlton statement released on Monday read: "Yesterday's Charlton Athletic Women's fixture against Manchester United Women was abandoned after a collision left Charlotte Kerr requiring serious medical attention.
"Kerr was transferred to a local hospital by ambulance. After the results of a scan Charlotte has now left hospital. She has been left with badly bruised ribs and sternum. She will now be treated by the Charlton Athletic Women's medical team who will assist her recovery.
"The Charlton Athletic Women's team club doctor, medical teams from Charlton Athletic Women, Manchester United Women and the ambulance service were able to prevent a serious incident from becoming a lot worse and the club would like to thank everyone who assisted.
"We would also like to thank all the individuals across the footballing community that have sent their best wishes to Charlotte."
