STAM BLASTS DAILY STAR

MANCHESTER UNITED star Jaap Stam has blasted British tabloid The Daily Star, claiming that there were gross errors in a story about him, and stating that he would never speak to them again.

Speaking on his Icons.com website, Stam admitted to being mystified by the front page story that suggested that he and his wife had eaten £32 worth of sweets at a visit to the cinema.

"I know it's a trivial matter," said the powerful defender. "But I thought I would set the record straight.

"Firstly, they said I saw `Gladiator` but it was in fact `The Talented Mr Ripley.` They said we ate the sweets while watching the film, but in fact we bought them after the movie to eat at home, which we did over a period of about four months.

"They said we bought three bags, it was actually two and it cost a lot less then the £32 they quoted. So they managed to get everything wrong.

"I can't honestly think of anyone being interested in me eating sweets. They can't have anything to write about at the Daily Star. There are people being killed all over the world and lots of serious issues and yet they think this is the news.

"I can say I won't be talking to the Daily Star in the future. They can forget about the interviews with me after this."
