United boss thinks Chelsea will be nearest rivals

Sir Alex Ferguson admits he expects Chelsea to be the biggest threat to their Premier League defence this coming season. Ferguson conceded Arsenal and Liverpool both look good, but it is Chelsea he thinks will be their main danger. The Manchester United chief feels The Blues' experience is the main reasoning behind them being the pick of their nearest rivals. "Arsenal had a great run last season until they got injuries in March, while Liverpool have signed Robbie Keane and one or two others," said Ferguson. "But Chelsea are the most experienced and they might be our biggest threat."

Improved

But Ferguson remains confident his side could again do the UEFA Champions League and Premier League double. "We don't need to get much better to achieve what we did last season but the challenge for us is to improve," he said. "You would think with young players like Anderson, (Cristiano) Ronaldo, (Wayne) Rooney and Nani we have the capacity to do that. "I am expecting a natural progression and there is no doubt in my mind this team will win championships long after I have left. "There is a good foundation here now."
Surprise?
Ferguson is yet to buy big this summer, despite constant links with the arrival of a striker with Tottenham's Dimitar Berbatov seemingly top of his wish list. But the Scot hinted he could be ready to shock everyone over the weekend. "You might be surprised at what is going to happen over the next two days," he said.
