Dutch striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar says he shunned interest from Manchester City in the summer
But striker could have been tempted by any United offer
Klaas Jan Huntelaar says he shunned interest from Manchester City in the summer, but could have been tempted by an offer from rivals United.
Dutch striker Huntelaar is set to join Real Madrid in January after agreeing a contract with the Spanish champions until 2013.
Huntelaar, who passed a medical on Wednesday, has established himself as one of the leading marksmen in Europe following his exploits at Ajax over the past three years.
Reports have claimed that cash-rich City tried to sign the 25-year-old before the close of the summer transfer window as the Premier League club made bids for a string high-profile players.
But Huntelaar, who was regularly linked with City's local rivals United, has suggested Mark Hughes' side were not a club he was keen to join.
"There was interest in the summer, but these weren't the clubs we had thought about," said Huntelaar in
The Sun.
"Manchester City didn't meet our criteria.
"Manchester United? Maybe that would have been another story!"
