Wayne Rooney is hoping the 2009/10 campaign will prove to be his most profitable in front of goal.
The Manchester United striker found the back of the net for the 15th time this season as he opened the scoring in Wednesday's 5-0 rout of Wigan.
The England ace is determined to keep his fine run of form going and has set his sights on breaking his own personal scoring record.
His best tally at present is 23, set in 2006/07, but the 24-year-old is confident he can eclipse that mark this time around.
"I would hope to beat my best total," he said.
"If I don't get another eight goals from now until the end of the season there is something seriously wrong.
"I hit the post before I scored (against Wigan) and the bar afterwards. I am doing well and I feel fit. Hopefully that will continue."
Aggressive
While Rooney has taken on added responsibility this season in the wake of Cristiano Ronaldo's departure to Real Madrid, he has been mightily impressed by the man brought in to replace the Portuguese superstar.
Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia was charged with the task of filling Ronaldo's boots and has fared admirably since completing a big-money move from Wigan over the summer.
He was also on target in the midweek mauling of the Latics, with his performances improving all the time as he grows increasingly accustomed to his new surroundings.
"Valencia is doing really well," said Rooney.
"He is really quick and is aggressive getting to the ball and his crosses are brilliant.
"To score seven goals already is a great achievement."
