Red Devils star admits he was lucky to escape

Manchester United star Anderson says he was 'very lucky' to emerge relatively unscathed after crashing his Audi R8 in Portugal. The 22-year-old had to be pulled from his sports car in the early hours of Saturday morning after it lost control, hit a wall and burst into flames. Anderson, who is currently recovering from a cruciate ligament injury, only suffered superficial injuries, much to his relief. The former Porto star has thanked fans for their strong support following his accident, further strengthening his resolve to return to action as soon as possible.

Very lucky

"I am very lucky because the accident was serious. I knew the road well," he told the Daily Mail. "But the car lost control at a curve and we crashed against a wall. I remember people coming to help, which I am very grateful for. "I just want to tell United fans I am fine and I will continue my rehabilitation so I can help the team. "I've had lots of calls and have assured my friends not to worry, but it was a very big scare for me."
