Prolific marksman laments not staying at Old Trafford
Henrik Larsson has acknowledged he made a mistake when he turned down the chance to extend his spell at Manchester United.
The Red Devils signed the Swedish striker back in 2007 in what was the major shock in the January transfer window.
Larsson made an instant impact during his short-term loan with Sir Alex Ferguson's side before going onto claim a title medal for his part in their Premier League success.
But the now 39-year-old refused to do a U-turn on an agreement to return to Helsingborgs and left the Theatre of Dreams once the deal ended.
And the former Celtic and Barcelona front-man admits snubbing Ferguson's pleas to remain at Old Trafford is his greatest regret in football.
"If there is one regret I have from my career, it is that I came home to Sweden when Mr Ferguson was trying to get me to stay at Manchester United," Larsson told Fifa's
official website.
"I should have stayed at United for longer because I had a great time there and everyone at the club was very keen to keep me. My time there was too short.
"The whole experience was fantastic and, although I was 35 at the time, I still felt that I had some good football in me. That is a regret."
