Man Utd striker targeting victory over City
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has set his sights on winning the FA Cup for the first time in his career.
Rooney has twice been on the losing side in a final, having experienced disappointment with United in 2005 and again two years later.
He is confident of going one step further this season, although United must first overcome local rivals Manchester City in their semi-final next month.
The winners will then face Bolton or Stoke in the final and Rooney is eager to fulfil a boyhood dream of lifting the famous trophy.
Speaking about the clash with City, he told
Inside United: "I am confident we can beat them.
"I am desperate to win the competition, having lost two finals. We have a great chance of going all the way this year.
"It is a massive competition with a lot of history. I watched it religiously growing up and going so close twice has been hard to take."
Brilliant
Manchester United are also targeting Premier League glory, which would seal a record 19th title for the club.
"I grew up an Everton fan so to be part of the team to overtake Liverpool's record would be brilliant. It would mean so much to us players as well as the fans," said Rooney.
"It is something I have been thinking about a lot. I know all the Everton fans want us to do it and hopefully we can.
"You look forward to every game at this stage and you've got to enjoy it, especially when you are in the running for a few trophies.
"It is exciting for the fans and it's exciting for the players knowing that you are just a few weeks away from possibly winning a major trophy or two."
Valencia
The return to fitness of Antonio Valencia has provided United with a timely boost in their pursuit of silverware, and Rooney is delighted to have the winger back following a lengthy lay-off with a sickening leg injury.
"I am probably the happiest person in the team to see him back," said the England striker.
"Having Nani on one wing and Antonio on the other is fantastic because they each bring something different."
