Michael Carrick has played down the Champions League victory over Chelsea in Moscow as the two sides prepare to meet again on Wednesday.
The Red Devils famously beat the Blues on penalties in 2008 final in the Russian capital to lift the silverware.
The English sides now meet again at the quarter-final stage of the elite European competition but Carrick does not believe the 2008 win will hand Sir Alex Ferguson's side the psychological advantage.
He said: "I don't think it matters, to be honest.
"It's too long ago now. That's a one-off game - it's totally different.
"We're not taking anything from that."
United head into the first leg clash on the back of a miserable recent record at Stamford Bridge, where they have now not won for almost nine years, including a controversial 2-1 defeat to the Blues just over a month ago.
"We've actually played all right at times but it doesn't count for anything," said Carrick.
"Hopefully we can get the right result to take back.
Tight game
"We know each other so well. It's going to be a tight game, I'd say.
"The first leg sets it up, especially away from home for us.
"We're looking forward to it. We played well there a few weeks ago and lost.
"We're going there with confidence but we know it's going to be a tough game."
United head into the game on a high after producing a trademark late comeback to win 4-2 at West Ham on Saturday.
"It's given us a big boost, obviously," said Carrick, who admitted being forced to turnaround another 2-0 deficit had also taken its toll.
"It's not ideal. It's a lot when you're chasing the game.
"But it's what we're here for. There's no saving energy for the games ahead.
"It's a huge three points for us and we'll be ready for the next game.
"It is tough when you're chasing games but it's about winning games now and we managed to do it."
