Midfielder ready to push for United recall after returning to fitness

Darren Fletcher is setting his sights on a return to the Manchester United starting XI after coming through two international outings unscathed. The midfielder skippered Scotland in a Euro 2012 double-header against the Czech Republic and Lithuania despite being short on match fitness. A mystery virus laid him low towards the end of last season and he is yet to make a domestic appearance this term. He is, however, convinced that he is ready to resume competitive action at Old Trafford and hopes it will not be too long before he is back at the forefront of Sir Alex Ferguson's plans. United's blistering start to the 2011/12 campaign may force him to wait a little longer than he had hoped, but Fletcher is ready and raring to go when required.

Patient

Following a run-out in a 1-0 victory over Lithuania on Tuesday, he said: "I feel fine. I said coming up to the games that my fitness wasn't a problem and I think I have proved that over the two 90 minutes. "I feel good and I'm ready to go back to my club now and somehow get back into that team. "I don't think I'll walk into the team but I'm ready to play. The team are performing so well just now so I don't think the manager will be making too many changes. "I've got to be patient and wait for my chance but I've been in that situation before and I know what it's all about. "It's a squad game and there will be plenty of games so I'll be patient and keep myself fit and ready for when I'm called upon."
