Police are investigating a racist tweet aimed at Danny Welbeck following his winning goal at Old Trafford on Monday night.

The former Manchester United striker scored the decisive goal in a 2-1 win that sent Arsenal through to the last four of the FA Cup.

Cup holders Arsenal will now play either Reading or Bradford in next month’s semi-final at Wembley.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police confirmed the tweet was 'extremely offensive containing several racist terms'.

Welbeck is a product of Manchester United's academy and made a £16m move to Arsenal on the final day of last summer's transfer window.

The 24-year-old England international has scored eight goals in 30 appearances for Arsenal this season.
