Chelsea striker Fran Kirby says the club are looking forward to making their Champions League debut later this week, after clinching the league and cup double last weekend.

Sunday's victory over Sunderland earned the Blues their maiden league title and came 12 months after losing out on goal difference.

Asked about their title success, Kirby told Sky Sports News HQ: "You could see how much it meant to everyone, the players, the staff.

"We were gutted last season, so we were desperate to win it this season.

"But the celebrations were quiet because we have to be ready for Thursday and the Champions League.

"But we still had a good time in the bar with friends and family."

As for Thursday's first leg in London against Glasgow, Kirby added: "We're confident. We won the league on Sunday and put on a good performance at home.

"We played them [Glasgow] pre-season so we know a little bit about them. It's the club's first appearance in the Champions League and it'll be a challenge."

And Chelsea skipper Katie Chapman added: "[It has] been a fantastic year for women in sport and it's nice to be part of that.

"Winning the double was history for the club and amazing for the gals. We have a great team here and we deserved to win the double.

"And it's still a young squad, so we should get better."

And Chapman also praised manager Emma Hayes, adding: "She's recruited well and put this team together within two years, which speaks volumes for her."
