Former England midfielder Anita Asante is to rejoin Chelsea Ladies, the Women's Super League club have announced.

The 32-year-old will officially join the club when the transfer window opens on December 29 after four years with Swedish side Rosengard.

Asante, who had a brief spell with the Blues in 2008-09, has agreed a deal until May 2020.

She told the club's website: "I'm so excited to join the club. It's a great football team, with a deep squad and I can't wait to get started.

"I've had the experience of playing here before. I have positive memories of that time and I've seen how much the club has grown since then, the success of the team and how they've developed. I feel I can be a part of that and contribute something."

London-born Asante began her career at Arsenal and had spells with American sides Sky Blue FC, St Louis Athletica, Chicago Red Stars and Washington Freedom after leaving Chelsea.

She then returned to Europe with Gothenburg, where she won two trophies before joining Rosengard.
