Terry hails Lamps

John Terry has heaped praise on Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard.

John Terry has heaped praise on Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard, saying he is reaping the rewards for his efforts.

Lampard was brought to Chelsea from West Ham in 2001 and many felt The Blues were taking a real gamble in signing the midfielder.

The former Hammer worked hard on his game and was rewarded with a key role in The Blues' cosmopolitan side.

England chief Sven Goran Eriksson was hugely impressed with Lampard and handed him a chance to shine on the international stage.

Lampard has repaid the faith with a string of impressive displays and Terry believes he is a key player for club and country.

"Frank has been fantastic," said Terry. "He is the backbone of Chelsea.

"He has got his England chance because of how well he has played for Chelsea and he deserves it.

"For a midfielder to score five goals in seven games for his country is fantastic and in every game he gets two or three chances and is always likely to put them away.

"He has been fantastic for club and country. He has worked hard; he is desperate to play for his country.

"He is very proud and is very determined and he has reaped the rewards."
