Cole named in Gunners squad
Ashley Cole has been named in Arsenal's UEFA Champions League squad.
Ashley Cole has been named in Arsenal's UEFA Champions League squad for the coming season. The England defender is tipped to secure a switch to Premiership champions Chelsea this summer, and Gunners vice-chairman David Dein has already admitted that initial talks between the two clubs have taken place.
That move is not likely to be jeopardised by Cole's inclusion in the squad submitted to Uefa, as he would still be eligible to play European football for Chelsea so long as he does not appear in the competition for Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger's side kick off their Champions League campaign against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday, but Cole is not expected to travel to Croatia with the rest of the squad.
Mathieu Flamini, who played at left back on several occasions last season, is likely to fill in for Cole against Zagreb.
Wenger has already confirmed that Thierry Henry will not play, while goalkeeper Jens Lehmann is suspended.
Summer signing Tomas Rosicky is set to make his competitive debut.
