In-form Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has fired a warning to rival teams by vowing to improve his game.

Free-scoring striker wants to better goal tally each season

In-form Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has fired a warning to the rest of the Premier League by vowing to improve his goal tally next season. The 31-year-old Ivory Coast international has hit 23 goals from 27 games in all competitions this term and is on course for his best goal tally in a Blues shirt. Drogba, who hit 33 in his third season at Stamford Bridge, is not one to rest on his laurels and he insists no matter what his tally totals at the end of this season, he will strive to improve it next term. "No matter what I do this season, next year when I return my objective will be to do better than that," declared Drogba, who is in direct contention with Wayne Rooney for the Premier League golden boot this season. "If people say, 'he has had a fantastic season', I will try to do better because that's the way I am." With the team in the spotlight following publicised allegations in captain John Terry's private life, Chelsea's form has been shaky of late. However, after being held by Hull City and suffering defeat to Everton, the Blues have bounced back with two wins on the spin over Arsenal and Cardiff in the FA Cup, and Drogba insists there is more than one leader in their team. "We have a lot of strong characters here which is good because we challenge ourselves," said Drogba, who scored the opener in a 4-1 win over the Bluebirds on Saturday.

Leaders

"Because we are all leaders, we always have to be the best - it is not easy but I think we are doing quite well. "Personally, when I am talking about experience in the squad, I'm talking also about the confidence my mates give me. "The togetherness of the team is amazing. No matter what happens we stick together and that's the real strength of Chelsea and I think a lot of teams want that. "When you get closer to the end of the competitions, you start to get more excited, that's how it is. "Each season is different and I don't know what to expect but the one thing I can say is that I will try to be there when the team will need me."
