Ashley Cole will not face prosecution after accidentally shooting a work placement student with an air gun.

Police prosecution "highly unlikely"

Ashley Cole will not face prosecution after accidentally shooting a work placement student with an air gun at Chelsea's training ground. Police sources have revealed that officers have contacted the Premier League champions and are "highly unlikely" to pursue investigations any further. Cole brought a .22 air gun to the Blues' Cobham training complex on 20th February and student Tom Cowan was accidentally hit by a pellet. The 21-year-old sports science student has no plans to press charges against the England international left-back.

Treatment

The decision comes after Stamford Bridge boss Carlo Ancelotti angrily hit out at calls for Cole to be disciplined, adding: "What do we have to do now - kill him?" Surrey Police received no formal complaints despite Cole breaking club rules which ban weapons from their training ground. Cowan, who is on a one-year work placement, was hit in the side by a lead pellet during the incident and did not require hospital treatment after being tended to by the club's medical staff. The club vowed to take "appropriate action", while Cole apologised to Cowan, his team-mates and the club's hierarchy.
