Midfielder back after Achilles problem
Yossi Benayoun is set to make a return to fitness in time to play for Israel in their European Championship qualifiers at the end of the month.
The 30-year-old Chelsea midfielder has found himself sidelined since September with an Achilles problem, yet now looks set to make a return to training on Friday.
Although he will not be fit enough to feature in the crucial Premier League game against Manchester City on Sunday, Benayoun may instead make his comeback on international duty.
Currently sitting fourth in Group F, Israel will take on Latvia and Georgia as they bid to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Israel boss Luis Fernandez said: "I have been in contact with him since his injury and I have heard about his progress.
"I know that Benayoun is not 100 per cent fit but he is the captain.
"It was sad to see him injured and just seeing him in the squad is very important."
