Manager feels Chelsea did not do enough

Carlo Ancelotti admits Manchester United deserved to advance after Chelsea crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at Old Trafford. The second leg of the quarter-final tie on Tuesday night saw United extend their 1-0 advantage from the first leg through Javier Hernandez on the stroke of half-time. Ramires was then dismissed for Chelsea before Didier Drogba gave them a glimmer of hope with a second-half goal, but Ji-Sung Park replied for the hosts just seconds later to seal their 3-1 aggregate win.

Deserved

Ancelotti was happy with his side's display, but feels they did not do enough over two legs to warrant a place in the semi-finals. "Our performance was not so bad but in the two games United deserved to win," Ancelotti told Sky Sports HD2. "The game was in balance until the end. Also we played with 10 men. "We came back into the game with 10 men but in the end it was not enough. "I think we had good control of the game for the first 25 minutes of the first half (but) we were not able to score. "We had some opportunities to score but the end of the first half when they scored made it more difficult for us." Ancelotti started misfiring striker Fernando Torres in place of Didier Drogba, but the £50million man failed to break his goal duck and was substituted at half-time. In contrast Drogba enjoyed a storming second half and Ancelotti hailed his performance, but did not confess to making a mistake in leaving the Ivorian on the bench. He said: "Drogba had a fantastic second half, using power and ability and scoring a goal."
Patience
Ancelotti refused to criticise Torres, insisting he will continue to be patient with the Spaniard, who has failed to open his account in 11 games. Ancelotti added: "We have to believe, to have the passion with him and wait (to see) if he'll improve." The Blues' European exit has all-but ended their bid for silverware this season, with the Premier League title seemingly out of reach, but Ancelotti insists they will push on. He said: "It will be difficult but quickly we have to move on from this defeat, this disappointment and look forward to the next game."
