Boss plays down Fergie comparisons
Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed he does not intend to stay in management for a long period of time.
The 33-year-old celebrated two-years as a manager on Friday, with his career already taking in an eight month spell with Academica and a trophy-laden year with Porto before moving to Stamford Bridge in June.
Blues chairman Bruce Buck revealed last week that he was delighted with the impact Villas-Boas has made so far and stated his belief that he could emulate Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and stay at the club for 15 years or more.
Villas-Boas admitted he appreciated the kind words from the Chelsea hierarchy but played down suggestions of a long-term stay with the Blues.
"I have this idea of not being in the game for a long period of time," said Villas-Boas.
"Bruce's words weren't said to collide with my words, on my future, but I really don't know what will happen.
"From what I understand from the chairman, there's confidence in the work we're doing and the most important thing is for me to alert people who aren't at the club that it isn't my arrival that's made us start well.
"This is a group success. We're happy with what we're achieving. Not fully happy because we'd like to be first in the league. But we're confident for the future."
Success
The Portuguese is Chelsea's seventh manager in eight years since owner Roman Abramovich took over the club, with the Russian desperate to find the right man to lead them to the Champions League.
Villas-Boas is aware he is expected to win silverware with the Blues but does not agree that his time at the club will necessarily be dictated by the number of trophies he wins.
"A longer or shorter stay can or cannot be related to success," added Villas-Boas.
"Last year, I went through the same (at Porto). We won four trophies and my emotions told me I'd be there a long time. But now I'm here.
"I have a three-year contract and there's always room for improvement.
"We just hope we improve in all areas and not make them worse. It's about making good decisions in the areas we are touching, the structure of the club as well as the team."
