Chelsea allay fears following Courtois comments

Chelsea have insisted they have no fears over the long-term fitness of goalkeeper Petr Cech following suggestions he may not be able to continue at the highest level for much longer. The Czech Republic international has been the No.1 at Stamford Bridge since arriving from Rennes in 2004, playing a key part in their success over the past seven years. He is still only 29 but his future with the Blues has become a talking point this week following comments made by fellow Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois. Courtois, who joined Chelsea over the summer from Genk before being immediately loaned out to Atletico Madrid on a season-long deal, was quoted as saying that Cech's body may not stand up to the rigours of Premier League football for many more years. "Chelsea's goalkeeping coach told me he doesn't know how much time Cech can play at the top level," the 19-year-old told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

One of the best

"I know he has problems in his knees and on his back." Chelsea have moved quickly to dismiss any concerns, though, stressing that Cech is currently in great shape and should enjoy a long career. "Petr is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, always performing at the very highest levels," said a spokesman for the club. "The club has no concerns at all with any aspect of Petr's game or physical condition, and we expect him to remain one of the world's best for many more years to come."
