Torres - I can fill Drogba gap

Fernando Torres is confident he can take up Didier Drogba's mantle at the head of Chelsea's strike force.

Striker happy with responsibility

Fernando Torres is confident he can take up Didier Drogba's mantle at the head of Chelsea's strike force. The Spaniard is the Blues' senior striker following the departure of the talismanic Ivorian, whose last act as a Chelsea player was to seal their Champions League victory from the penalty spot. After a troubled first 18 months at Stamford Bridge, Torres has enjoyed a good start to the new season with three goals so far and he is relishing the chance to be the main man up front.

Responsibility

"Didier is not here anymore, so there is more responsibility for me and I'm ready for the challenge," the 28-year-old admitted in the Daily Star Sunday. "Now, I am looking for new personal targets, like getting as many goals as possible - hopefully more than in my best season at Liverpool." A busy summer in the transfer market has seen the revamped Chelsea squad talked of in terms of winning the Premier League for the first time since 2010, and Torres is keen not to let last season's momentum slip. He added, "I think all the fans are excited about the Premier League again, after a couple of years of not winning the trophy. "So the Premier League is a big target and maybe we can become the first team to win two Champions Leagues in a row. "I think it's a good time - especially for me - to give something back to the fans."
