Chelsea new boy Baba Rahman hopes his ability to get forward from full-back will be of benefit to the Blues this season.

The 21-year-old has been signed from Augsburg, having attempted more crosses than any other player in the Bundesliga last season.

And Rahman told the Chelsea website that he hopes to continue playing in a buccaneering fashion at Stamford Bridge.

"I'm a left-back and, as a defender, it's important for me to be strong in the tackle, which I always try to be," he said.

"I also like to get forward as much as possible and help the team in attack. In the Premier League there is a heavy emphasis on getting up and down the pitch, which I like to do.

"It's very important because, obviously, if you can provide crosses from out wide there is a higher chance of providing assists and chances for the team."

Rahman visited Chelsea's Cobham training ground for the first time on Tuesday and is thrilled to have signed for the Premier League champions.

He said: "I'm very happy to be here and I'm really looking forward to meeting my team-mates and getting started.

"It's a fantastic training ground. The facilities are amazing and the pitches are world class. It's very good here.

"My main aim is to win trophies for the club. Obviously, Chelsea won the Premier League last season, and I hope we can repeat that, and do even more. That's what I hope to achieve."

Rahman becomes the third Ghanaian player to join Chelsea, following Christian Atsu and Michael Essien, who enjoyed a trophy-laden eight and a half year stint at Stamford Bridge.

"I spoke with both of them and they were very positive about Chelsea," said Rahman. "They told me it was a great club with very nice people, which was good to hear."
