Dudek inspired by Grobbelaar

Jerzy Dudek was inspired by Bruce Grobbelaar's antics to be Liverpool's hero.

Jerzy Dudek revealed that he was inspired by Bruce Grobbelaar's antics in 1984 as he became the penalty hero to hand Liverpool their fifth European Cup.

Dudek saved spot kicks from both Andrea Pirlo and Andrei Shevchenko as The Reds triumphed on an electric night, and described how Jamie Carragher told him to repeat the off-putting tactics that Grobbelaar used against Roma 21 years ago.

The Pole also enjoyed a superb game throughout and denied Ukrainian superstar Shevchenko twice in the dying moments to save the Anfield faithful from going hom heartbroken.

"Carra came to me and said remember Grobbelaar, put them off all the time, just do it, and I was trying to do it," Dudek told Sky Sports.

"I was waiting for this moment.

"I had difficult moments in this game but this is fantastic.

"I don't know how I did it [saved twice from Shevchenko], It was fortunate for myself that I did it. Fantastic for me."
