Reds fancy full back swap

Liverpool are in talks with Villarreal over a swap involving Josemi and Jan Kromkamp.

Spanish full back Josemi appears unsettled at Anfield and has been linked with a return home during the January transfer window.

He is believed to be keen to join Sevilla, but Liverpool are reluctant to offload the right back until they have a replacement lined up.

The European champions could now kill two birds with one stone, after reports in Spain claimed they are discussing a swap deal with Villarreal.

Dutch international Kromkamp, who only signed for Villarreal from AZ Alkmaar at the start of the season, is unhappy at El Madrigal.

Kromkamp has been asked to be allowed to leave the club on loan in the New Year to boost his prospects of being in Holland's World Cup squad.

Villarreal were initially lukewarm to the idea of losing Kromkamp, but the possibility of landing Josemi could prompt a rethink.

The reports suggest a deal could be agreed which would see Kromkamp provide Liverpool with the necessary competition for Steve Finnan, and also allow Josemi to head back to Spain.
