Striker aims for domestic success

Peter Crouch insists Liverpool's main aim this season should be success in the Premier League. Liverpool have not lifted a league title since 1990 and Crouch believes the current squad have the capabilities to end that drought. Debate often surrounds where priorities at Anfield lie and it has been suggested that Liverpool's Spanish manager Rafa Benitez places more emphasis upon success in the UEFA Champions League. Crouch, though, is in no doubt which accolade it is that Liverpool players and fans would most like to see lifted at the end of the season.

Tradition

"The fans talk about the Premier League and I think it's the same with a lot of the players," Crouch told Skysports.com. "Quite a few of the players won the Champions League in 2005 and we got to the final last year and I would like to have that success again. But we haven't won the Premier League for a long, long time. "Liverpool football club based its tradition on winning championships and for a club like that it has been too long." Crouch also believes that Liverpool, who started the season in style but have recently been held to draws with Portsmouth and Birmingham, are ideally placed to get their season back on track against Tottenham on Sunday.
Ability
"Tottenham haven't had the best of starts by their standards and they will come to Anfield right up for it," Crouch added. "I certainly believe we've got the ability to beat them. We need a good result at Anfield and there is no better place to start than Tottenham on Sunday. "Look at the way we started the season; I believe that is our true form. We have got to get back to that, back to doing the right things and getting results. "We are certainly capable of mounting a challenge this season and we have got to make sure we don't let it slip away from us." Peter Crouch was speaking to Skysports.com in association with Hyundai.
