Reds striker ready to fight for his place

Peter Crouch is refusing to let the constant speculation surrounding his future affect his game. The Liverpool striker looks set to be a given a rare start in the Reds final home game of the season against Manchester City on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1, but has found himself on the sidelines for much of the 2007/08 campaign. He has failed to hold down a first-team spot since the arrival of Fernando Torres last summer and accepts that he needs to review his current situation over the summer. Crouch is aware that there is plenty of interest in his services, but insists that he will not contemplate a move until he is deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield.

"I know the summer is going to bring speculation about my future," he said. "It is something we always have to live with in this game, unfortunately. "And when a player is not playing as often as he would like, then people will always say these things. "I am just going to ignore it and concentrate on my football like I always have with this stuff in the past."
Fresh
Crouch understands that his role is unlikely to change next season, and with Rafael Benitez told that he must sell before he can buy this summer the England international knows that he may be one of the players sacrificed. However, he feels that he has done enough when given his chance to prove that he is capable of forcing his way into the manager's plans. "I have not played anything like as much football this season as some of the other lads. I feel fresh and it has been great to be involved again," he said. "I know when I signed there was no guarantee about starting games. No one has that divine right to be picked so it is down to how you do when you get your chance and whether you can hold a place down. "I'd like to think I have shown what I can do, I was given my chance recently at Arsenal (and scored) and kept my place for the European game that followed."
