Reds skipper eyes title glory

Steven Gerrard has told Sky Sports News he believes Liverpool's unwavering support is deserving of a Premier League title. The Reds have gone 18 long years since they last claimed the top-flight crown, with countless false dawns failing to bring the desired result. However, with the club leading the way 15 games into the current campaign, there is a growing sense of optimism on Merseyside that this may be the year that barren spell comes to an end. Influential club captain Gerrard is certainly hoping that proves to be the case, with the England international desperate to give the Anfield faithful something to shout about.

Medal

"From a personal point of view it's the only medal I haven't got so it would be nice to finish the collection off," Gerrard told Sky Sports News. "But it's not about me, it's about the club and the fans. The fans have waited so long for this title - it's time it was delivered. "We need to give everything we've got to make those fans happy." While Liverpool top the table by one point at present, that lead could have been far more commanding were it not for a couple of disappointing recent results.
Ruthless
Back-to-back goalless draws at home to Fulham to West Ham could prove costly come May, and Gerrard admits that Rafa Benitez's men need to rediscover their cutting edge if they are to stave off the challenge of Chelsea and Manchester United. "I think it's about being slightly more ruthless in front of goal," he added. "I think the team is defending well and we are creating opportunities. It's now down to me and the other players to be a little bit more ruthless and take the chances. "Especially with Fernando (Torres) out - he is our main goalscorer - so when he's missing it's important other players take responsibility to score the goals."
