Club to hold memorial service for Hillsborough victims
Rafa Benitez has paid tribute to the people of Liverpool for the way they remember the 96 victims of Hillsborough.
The 21st anniversary of the disaster at the 1989 FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Sheffield Wednesday's home ground will be marked by a memorial service at Anfield on Thursday afternoon.
Benitez, who will be attending his sixth memorial service, insists the memory of the 96 victims should never be forgotten.
"Since I've been here it's always been very, very emotional," Benitez told the club's
official website.
"All the players and all the staff are always there trying to support the families because it is a very important day for the club.
"The first time I went to the memorial service I was so impressed by what happens at this club. You can see the people and all the feelings.
"It's a poignant occasion to keep everyone remembering."
The memorial service takes place from 2.45pm and it will be shown live on LFC TV (Sky channel 434).
