Reds boss keeping his eyes open for stars of the future
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is hoping to further strengthen his squad before the 2010/11 campaign gets underway.
Since taking the Anfield hot-seat this summer, the experienced coach has already secured the signatures of England winger Joe Cole and promising Scottish defender Danny Wilson, while teenage midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has completed a switch from Charlton.
Wilson, who is still only 18, arrived in a £5million deal from Rangers on Wednesday, while Cole has moved to Merseyside as a free agent.
All of those recruited so far have helped to bring added competition and quality to the Reds squad, as the club look to force their way back into the Premier League's top four.
Hodgson has also revealed that he is planning to bring in a few more fresh faces before Liverpool kick-off the new season against Arsenal on 15th August - a game which can be seen live on
Sky Sports HD 1 and
Sky Sports 1.
Exceptional
The former Fulham boss is happy with the potential currently at his disposal, having given some of his youngsters a run-out in a goalless draw with Grasshoppers in midweek, but believes it is imperative that the Reds continue to build solid foundations for the future.
"In tandem with what we're doing with the first team, we've got to have our eyes and ears alert to any young talent that could be future stars," said the Reds boss.
"The earlier we get them into the club the better. Against Grasshoppers we saw young players like Nathan Eccleston and David Amoo, young players who showed they've got exceptional talent.
"We need more players of that type of quality. Danny Wilson is certainly one and I'm very pleased we've brought him into the club."
