Serbian says sorry after surprise shoot-out defeat to Cobblers
Liverpool forward Milan Jovanovic has echoed the apologies of manager Roy Hodgson after the club's catastrophic defeat to Northampton in the Carling Cup.
The Reds were dumped out of the competition at the third-round stage after a shock penalty shoot-out defeat to their League Two opponents at Anfield.
Northampton fully deserved the memorable victory, which marked a new low for Liverpool in what has been a terrible 2010 for the club.
Hodgson said sorry to fans after the spot-kick drama late on Wednesday night and Jovanovic, who had opened the score in a match which ended 2-2 after extra-time, has issued similar sentiments.
Surprise
"Catastrophe. I am so disappointed," said the Serbian. "We know this is not Liverpool. It is very bad.
"I am so surprised by the performance. I have not got enough experience of English football but I didn't expect this.
"Northampton played a really good game. We played a bad game, but this is football."
Jovanovic added in the
Liverpool Echo: "I am so disappointed. We all are.
"We are sorry for the result but we have to move on now."
