Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is pleased to be welcoming Steven Gerrard back to the side against Fulham.
Reds boss will fit skipper in where he sees fit
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is pleased to be welcoming Steven Gerrard back to the first team as he returns from suspension.
The talismanic skipper was sent off in Dalglish's first match back in charge against Manchester United in the FA Cup third round at the start of January and was out for three matches.
In that time, Dalglish, who took over from Roy Hodgson at the start of January, has seen his team lose to Blackpool, draw with Everton and then finally win in style with a 3-0 victory at Wolves.
Gerrard's role behind main striker Fernando Torres was taken by Portuguese playmaker Raul Meireles, who was given more advanced duties in the England midfielder's absence.
The Portuguese playmaker now looks to be paying back the £11.5million fee paid for him from Porto last summer with two excellent goals in two games and a sublime performance on Saturday.
When quizzed about whether Gerrard will slot into his usual position with Meireles dropping back, Dalglish suggested that he would decide where is best but it was good to have him back for their game against Fulham on Wednesday.
"We'll play him where we think it's best to play him. He's a fantastic footballer and he's served this club unbelievably well," he said.
Lift
"Your captain being available after missing three games will be a fantastic lift for everybody.
"For us to have Steven back and on the back of the performance and result over the weekend is going to be a lift for everyone."
The Reds have made a habit of following up a good result with a bad one, and Dalglish was eager to stress that they must stick together if they want results.
"We should be realistic as well, we should understand as I've said many times before," he added.
"A lot of people who came to watch the games have been a wee bit apprehensive because of the results we've had in the past away from home.
"We stick as one, we need their (the fans) help at times, and we've got to help them at times, and if we move forward together then we should be alright."
