Reds boss aiming to end the season as positively as possible
Kenny Dalglish believes his Liverpool squad deserve massive credit for turning a faltering season around.
The Reds endured a nightmare opening to the 2010/11 campaign, with the summer appointment of Roy Hodgson as boss failing to inspire an underperforming side.
In the end further managerial changes were required, with former player and coach Dalglish drafted back into the hot-seat.
He was able to make an immediate impression, with his standing at Anfield helping to bring the best out of those around him.
A fifth-placed finish and qualification for the Europa League is still not out of the question, although a late burst will be required to clamber onto such a lofty perch.
Dalglish admits that has to remain the target, though, with his players having already proven that they are capable of much more than they displayed during the early stages of the campaign.
"I still don't think sixth place is the position we actually want to be in," he told the club's
official website.
"But credit to the players because there have only been two transfers out and two in, and the lads that have got us to where we are deserve great credit for it.
Achievement
"I don't think they could have done much more. I think they've done more than they possibly could.
"We've won some games maybe people thought we couldn't win and we've lost other games we thought we should win, but at the end of the day, as we keep saying, we will add up the points at the end of the season and see where we are.
"If we were to finish sixth it would be an achievement for the players that they have got that far in such a short space of time but we just need to keep going and see what happens."
Meanwhile, Liverpool have announced that they will take in a pre-season tour of the Far East this summer.
Matches will be staged in China, Malaysia and South Korea, allowing Liverpool to further enhance their already sizeable fan base in the region.
The tour will take place in July and will see the Reds turn out in Guangzhou, Kuala Lumpur and Seoul.
Club captain Steven Gerrard said: "Whenever we go to Asia, the fans are always amazing.
"The supporters over there are fanatical about Liverpool and it's great that we can give so many of them a chance to come and watch the team play."
