Former Anfield favourite Luis Garcia has thanked the Liverpool fans for their support during his recent Indian Super League (ISL) adventure with Atletico de Kolkata.

Garcia helped Kolkata win the inaugural competition last month and was also named as the most exciting player of the tournament.

And the 36-year-old forward admits he was overwhelmed by the messages he received from Liverpool fans in India and across the world.

“I was greeted by Liverpool supporters as soon as I reached Kolkata and they were everywhere I travelled in India,” Garcia told Sky Sports.

“In Delhi, Goa and Mumbai the Red family was waiting for me and it was always a pleasure to meet them and feel their support.

I also felt the love from all the fans through Twitter and social media and I want to thank all of them for their support. It's a club that still remains very close to my heart and everybody there knows that

“I also felt the love from all the fans through Twitter and social media and I want to thank all of them for their support. It's a club that still remains very close to my heart and everybody there knows that.”

Garcia’s memorable three-year spell at Liverpool saw the Spaniard win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and Community Shield.

He scored 30 goals in 118 appearances for the Reds and enjoys hero status with Liverpool supporters who still sing his name to this day.

“It's unbelievable to hear the fans sing my name still. It's great,” he said.

“I was there a few months ago and heard the song and I'm so happy that I have that connection with the supporters and so happy to be part of the Liverpool family.”

Garcia was joined at Atletico de Kolkata by former Liverpool team-mate Josemi who was also part of the 2005 side that stunned AC Milan by coming back from three goals down to win the Champions League final in Istanbul.

“I still remember the Champions League final in Turkey, in Istanbul,” Josemi said.

“Often that moment comes into my head and it makes me very happy. I only played at Liverpool for a year-and-a-half but my heart is red. My heart is in Liverpool with the Kop and the Liverpool fans.”
