Liverpool Ladies goalkeeper Danielle Gibbons has undergone surgery after a benign tumour was found on her brain.

Gibbons was diagnosed with acoustic neuroma back in January and had successful surgery to remove the tumour earlier this week.

She faces a few months away from football but hopes to be back in action for Liverpool's Champions League campaign later in 2015.

Liverpool manager Matt Beard said: “Both myself and the players have known about Danielle’s tumour for a while but have kept it to ourselves at the request of Danielle and her family.

“As a club we are ensuring that Danielle gets the support she needs and we look forward to her making a speedy recovery and returning to the team.”
