Steve Bould says Arsene Wenger's appetite for success at Arsenal remains as big as ever

Steve Bould says he has "never met anybody as hungry and determined" as Arsene Wenger, in a stern defence of the Arsenal manager.

Wenger was unavailable for Thursday's pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal's Super Sunday meeting with Stoke due to illness, his assistant confirmed.

Bould was unwilling to discuss matters unrelated to the forthcoming fixture, but rushed to support Wenger, who recently claimed to have been the subject of age discrimination in the wake of calls for him to step down.

When asked whether Wenger still has his hunger, Bould responded: "Absolutely, he is remarkable. Behind closed doors I've never met anybody who's as hungry and determined to win football games.

"I admire him immensely. He takes an awful lot of stick off a lot of people and he's just one of the great managers. It's a pleasure for me to sit next to him.

"He's doing a great job as far as I'm concerned and he's done a great job for an awful long time."
