Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has joined Bundesliga side FC Augsburg as assistant coach.

The 49-year-old has signed a contract until June 30 2020 and will join the coaching team for Wednesday's training session.

Lehmann has been out of a coaching role since leaving Arsenal last June.

Augsburg head coach Manuel Baum said: "I am pleased that we were able to win Jens Lehmann as assistant coach.

"He is an absolute expert who has a lot of experience.

"I'm looking forward to working with him because I'm sure he'll enrich our team and work with the team."

Lehmann won the Premier League with Arsenal in 2004 and the FA Cup in 2005.
