German champions linked to big-money bid for attacking pair

Arsenal attacking midfielder Alexander Hleb and VfB Stuttgart's Mario Gomez are being linked with big-money moves to German champions Bayern Munich. The pair would reportedly cost a combined 37million euros (£29.5million) to buy out their current contracts. Both Bayern and agent Uli Ferber, who manages both players, have refused to comment, but Munich newspaper TZ has reported that a reliable source has confirmed the intense interest. It has also been reported that Germany striker Gomez has signed a preliminary contract at Bayern.

The player would not confirm this, saying after Germany's win over Poland on Sunday: "I am only concentrating 100 per cent on Euro 2008. "Any speculation over changing clubs doesn't interest or concern me at the moment." Germany midfielder Tim Borowski has already joined Bayern from Werder Bremen, while Jorg Butt has made the move from Benfica. The champions' new coach Jurgen Klinsmann takes over as boss on 1st July and he has retained predecessor Ottmar Hitzfeld's assistant coach, Michael Henke, as Bayern's chief analyst. Philipp Laux has also been appointed as a sports psychologist at the club.
