Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos has been linked with a move to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

German side rumoured to be lining up contingency plan

Arsenal defender Philippe Senderos has been linked with a move to Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin. Senderos, who is currently on-loan with AC Milan, has been strongly connected with the German side as part of a contingency plan. According to Swiss newspaper Blick, Hertha are hoping to secure a centre-back as cover should Josip Simunic leave the club. The Croatian international could make use of a buy-out clause at the end of the season leaving manager Lucien Favre with limited options at the back.

Quiet

Refusing to comment on speculation linking Senderos with a summer move, Favre told Bild: "I cannot say a thing about it." Having coached Senderos as a 16-year-old when he began his professional career with Swiss side Servette, Favre is well aware of his abilities. "The fact is that Philippe was, and still is, a very good player," he added. Hertha Berlin general manager Dieter Hoeness also played down speculation linking Simunic with a move away from the club. "Thus far we have not been given any signals by Joe (Josip Simunic) that he could be definitely leaving this season," he said. "Though, we do not talk about how to replace him at this point in time."
