Sagna - We need a Plan B

Defender says Gunners must 'cut out the football' to win honours

Bacary Sagna believes Arsenal must have a Plan B should their free flowing football prove difficult to win games. The Gunners are renowned for their attractive passing moves which can tear teams apart at times but on other occasions fail to create a breakthrough. Arsene Wenger's men were beaten at their own game by a brilliant Barcelona side on Tuesday, with the inspirational Lionel Messi grabbing all their goals in a 4-1 win. With Arsenal knowing no other way of playing, their style often means they come a cropper on difficult grounds particularly in the Premier League. Now out of the UEFA Champions League, the Gunners must turn their attention to their pursuit of the league title, but Sagna insists they may be forced to adapt a new style if their preferred one is not coming off. "Sometimes I think we play too much," the 27-year-old France international said. "We just want to do that and do not think about what is good for us - sometimes we just need to cut out the football, stop playing for a bit and just consider what will help us achieve what we want."

Title race

Wenger's third-placed side are three points adrift of leaders Chelsea and have been constantly written off in the title race, but Sagna maintains they will fight to the wire. "Football changes very quickly," the defender said. "Two months ago we were 10 points behind and came back quickly - we did it once, we can do it again. "We are confident that we will be back and they (Manchester United and Chelsea) will drop points. "However, we just want to win every game until the end of the season and not think about the other teams." Sagna admits Barcelona overpowered the Gunners with their 6-3 aggregate win, and with the Premier League now their only chance of a first piece of silverware since 2004, the Frenchman wants to end the season on a high. "We wanted to play in every game with 100%, and we gave that against Barcelona," he said. "Barcelona were just better than us, now we have to play again and try to be better than the other teams."
