Arsenal striker glad to be back on the goal trail

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner expressed his relief after opening his account for the season. The Denmark international, 22, sat out the start of the campaign in a bid to rid himself of a niggling groin injury. But he came off the bench against Birmingham earlier this month to make his first appearance this term and was on target during his second on Sunday. Bendtner scored on the break to seal a 3-0 win over Manchester City and claim his first club goal since April - and his 50th overall. "It was fantastic to score again," he told Viasat. "I have waited for that for a long time.

Good start

"I felt we got off to a good start as they had a man sent off and we scored shortly after." Dedryck Boyata was sent off in the fifth minute for bringing down Marouane Chamakh before Samir Nasri and Alex Song scored midway through each half. Bendtner then replaced Chamakh in the 84th minute and struck just four minutes later as Arsenal climbed above Man City and Man Utd into second place on goal difference. "All in all, it was a fair result and it was a truly important win for us," Bendtner added. "It allows us to climb in the standings and it's always important to beat the other top sides."
