Trotters boss trying to land Mexican on loan

Bolton manager Owen Coyle has confirmed that the club have made an approach to sign Arsenal forward Carlos Vela on loan. The 21-year-old Mexico international has been strongly linked with a short-term switch to the Reebok after being unable to break into Arsene Wenger's first-team plans this season. Bolton have suffered a number of injury setbacks in recent weeks and Scottish coach Coyle is keen to bolster his ranks for the second half of the campaign. He has now revealed that the Trotters have contacted Arsenal in regards to Vela, but is aware that Spanish sides Espanyol and Valencia are also chasing his signature. "What I do know is that the group of players I'm looking to keep them together and try and add one or two," Coyle said. "It's already been documented in the press and various other sources that we certainly want to add one or two. "We have made an enquiry to Arsenal for Carlos Vela on loan and we'll await what the outcome of that is." Vela has only made four substitute appearances in the Premier League this term although he has played in the Carling Cup and the UEFA Champions League. He has had previous loan stints at Spanish sides Salamanca and Osasuna but Wenger may be keen to see him get valuable Premier League experience under his belt.
