German keeper takes plenty of positives from reserve run-out

Jens Lehmann insists he is in good shape and ready for duty should he be required by Arsenal. The veteran goalkeeper has returned to Emirates Stadium for a second spell after answering an SOS call from Arsene Wenger. With the Gunners seeing their keeping options decimated by injuries, they turned to a former favourite for a helping hand. At 41 years of age and having been retired for almost a year, Lehmann has been drafted in as cover for Manuel Almunia. He is, however, there if needed and came through a 90-minute run-out for the reserves on Tuesday unscathed. Lehmann believes that outing has been beneficial to him, allowing him to recover his match sharpness following a lengthy spell away from competitive action. "It was very beneficial for me to play a game," he told Arsenal's official website.

"Physically I felt well because I have trained hard during the last few weeks. "I was okay [before I joined], but it's different when you train with the team for three hours. "I felt that quite a lot last weekend, but now I have recovered a little bit and I felt quite fresh." He added: "It is always good to learn a little bit about what I could have done better. "There are some situations that you can't play in a training game because in a real game there is a referee, a linesman and everything has to fit together to create situations like the game itself. "It was a good experience."
